Why are you changing the name? Having BASIC in the product name was a positive for some, but it scared a lot of people away who associated basic with dated technology. Our language is nothing like BASIC, other than that it shares the philosophy that a programming language should be easy and powerful. With all of the changes in 2013 Release 1, this is the right time for us to find an identity that better represents who we are and what we do.
Will the language and environment be Xojo? Yes.
What is the appropriate pronunciation of Xojo? "Zoh-joh" - rhymes with dojo, mojo.
How did you come up with this name? The name comes from X-platform ObJect Orientation. It will soon mean "the best cross-platform development tool ever!"
With the name change, does that mean that all of the REALbasic plugin and framework calls move to Xojo naming? Does this break everyone's code? No, your code will not break. We will have aliases to anything we change in the framework. RBScript and XojoScript will both work, but only the Xojo-named class names will appear in the documentation. And of course, Xojo will be the name of the namespace we use for the framework.
What about the NUG archives and forums? Will all of that content go away? No, we are not going to expunge Real Studio from those. We will be moving to new forum software, but we will still maintain a read-only version of the current Real Studio forums.
Can I still use Real Studio? Will I lose access to old versions? You will not lose access to any version of Real Studio you have already paid for. Those are yours forever. You can still use Real Studio. If your license is expired, you will have to renew in order to get access to future Xojo releases.
