Xojo Announces the Availability of Xojo 2016 Release 1; Adds Support for Retina/HiDPI on Mac and Windows

AUSTIN, TX, USA (April 5, 2016) - Xojo, Inc., the company that has enabled over 300,000 developers to build native cross-platform applications, today announced the availability of Xojo 2016 Release 1. Xojo is a rapid application development tool (RAD) for making apps for the desktop (OS X, Windows and Linux), web, iOS, and Raspberry Pi. The latest release adds support for building Retina applications on OS X and HiDPI applications on Windows. In addition to 96 improvements, this release boasts a completely new, faster local language reference.

Xojo is the best environment for professional developers, citizen developers and hobbyists alike. Xojo applications compile to machine code for greater performance and security. It uses native controls so apps look and feel right on each platform. Since one set of source code can be used to support multiple platforms, development is ten times faster. Xojo comes with a drag and drop user interface builder and one straightforward programming language for development.

“Most development tools don’t make it that easy to support HiDPI in Windows,” commented Geoff Perlman, Xojo Founder and CEO. “As a result, most apps on Windows are not HiDPI. Rather than putting in the extra effort required to make your app HiDPI, your app is automatically HiDPI with Xojo.”

“As high resolution displays become more and more common, you’re going to want your apps to take advantage of that and now it's as easy as turning on a switch with Xojo,” commented Paul Lefebvre, Xojo Developer Evangelist. “Also, our new language reference combines the Xojo documentation from all sources to make it super fast and easy to find what you are looking for.”

The feature highlights are:

  • etina support for OS X built applications
  • HiDPI support for Windows built applications (Beta feature)
  • Completely new, faster local language reference
  • 96 general improvements
